Another member of the GDP team and I were delighted to be invited to watch the Aegon Championships at the Queen’s Tennis Club on Tuesday 10th June. And to make the day that little bit more special the weather was glorious!
When we arrived we were escorted to the hospitality suite called Love Fifteen. We were offered refreshments and a light lunch inspired by Jamie Oliver.
As we were given a tour around the venue, we were shown the roof gardens and practice courts, and I was
fascinated by people watching. Analysing people’s clothes, how they carried themselves, laughing with the person next to them, curious as to what made them laugh so much. It really was amazing to watch all these glamorous people here together because they all share one thing in common… a passion for Tennis.
We were fortunate enough to be able to watch players like Marin Cilic, Grigor Dimitrov, Tomas Berdych and James Ward.
On the main court we spotted Pippa Middleton and Maria Sharapova on the other side of the court. We were just in time to watch Marinko Matosevic and Marin Cilic, the 2012 champion and 2013 runner-up. The crowd went quiet during each set, apart from one lady who kept shouting out ‘GO AUSSY,’ which I found hilarious! Not so sure of everyone else’s thoughts… But her chanting must have done something as Marinko Matosevic beat Marin Cilic 6-4 6-4.
After our fabulous day I was sad to hear that Murray lost in straight sets to the Czech player on Thursday, which is his first defeat on grass since the 2012 Wimbledon final against Roger Federer. Let’s just hope Murray pulls it together and puts up a corker of a fight defending his Wimbledon Crown!
Thank you to our wonderful hosts for a very entertaining and educational day. I have come away knowing many rules of Tennis, and if ever in a conversation with someone regarding this subject, I feel confident I will understand and respond with my new found knowledge! Now who wants to test me..???
